This weekend Dave had a regatta down in Rock Hall, MD, so we decided to stay at a bed and breakfast and make a weekend of it. Unfortunately it rained, but that didn’t stop Sophie and me from exploring the area (we both just had several bad hair days). Dave won so everyone had a great weekend!

What you can’t see in this picture are the purple hand that Sophie got from touching the Iris. I had to scrub them for about 5 minutes to get all of the purple off. Good to know for future dyeing projected I guess…

The weather here has been amazing! Last weekend, which was Mother’s Day weekend, we decided to do a little picnic in the Azalea Garden, which is a few blocks from our house. Sophie loved running around with her shoes off and Benson loved running around unleashed.

Soph enjoyed swatting at the azalea bushes. You can see how hard she’s working by the tongue hanging out of her mouth.

So, Sophie officially has a first word. I’ve been avoiding blogging about it in the hopes that maybe she would start to say another one, and we could make that her first official word, but alas, I must report that “yuck” is her first word. She says it perfectly too. Emphasis on the “ck.” I guess this just goes to show how much we use the word around her, as in “Yuck, don’t put that in your mouth,” “Yuck, that’s Benson’s toy,” etc. Ah, well…
She also spent Easter this year with her Mom Mom and Pop Pop Sharp because Dave and I were in France for a week (in our defense, we booked the trip before realizing that it was over Easter weekend… oops). I don’t have any pics from the day, but hopefully Pop Pop will send some 🙂 Dave and I had a fantastic time in Paris where we visited my cousin Dan & is Beaune where we enjoyed touring the many vineyards and enjoying the wine of the region.
This past weekend we went to a baby shower for our friends Seth & Tara who are expecting twin girls in July. Below is a pic of us on our way. Thanks Julia and Kelly for the cute dress!

No matter how many new toys we give Sophie – her most favorite thing in the kitchen in Benson’s food & water (much to his dismay). She knows she’s not supposed to play with it, which makes it that much more tempting I guess. She was cracking herself up so much this time, I thought I’d record it before letting her know she was caught. You’ll see how thrilled Benson is about the whole thing. Video here.

We’ve been working on Sophie’s “tricks” and this weekend her Nana & Papap taught her “So Big!” This is added to her repertoire of clapping and waving. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present: So Big

We celebrated Sophie’s first birthday this weekend with a family party at the house. She had a blast visiting with so many of her family members and generally being the center of attention.

Here are two of her many birthday presents. Her first pair of Jellies (thanks Auntie Aleen!) and a recliner from Nana and Pap Pap. She’s also showing off her new trick: the clap. Yay!
Uncle Dick made balloon hats for everyone. This is Sophie with her second cousin Shannon.
And of course there was cake!!

Thanks to everyone for making it such a special day! What a perfect first birthday party!

Sophie’s birthday isn’t until Wednesday, but we couldn’t wait to give her her present, a little kitchen! Since she spends so much time with us cooking, we figured she could do a little of her own now.

Sophie helping Dave assemble. Since it came in a million pieces, it took a little longer than we had anticipated…
And the final product!

She’ll be a master chef before we know it.

This weekend I took Sophie to the Zoo. Sunday was a beautiful, almost spring-like day, so we decided to get a little time outside and see some animals.

Sophie up close and personal with a gorilla. Of course, she didn’t even seem to notice him.
We went into the petting zoo area and spent some time with goats and sheep. She looks a little skeptical of this particular goat.

The bird exhibits ended up being her favorite. I think there might be Ibis in this pen. She was also very interested in the flamingos and ducks. Who knew? I guess next outing we’ll hit Kelly Drive to see some Canada Geese.
